To download Verizon In Home Agent on your Dell Latitude E5400, you can visit the official Verizon website and navigate to the software download section. Search for "Verizon In Home Agent" and follow the provided instructions to download and install it on your computer.
Try to log-in to your router's Administration interface, then locate the Wireless Security. For encryption, use AES + TKIP as it expands the compatibility with legacy devices that use a different wireless protocol.
Additionally, change the channel and the authentication method as well. For example, change from WEP/WPS to WPA2 Personal and assign a password you can easily remember but secure enough to prevent others from connecting.
Despite repeated downloads from the Verizon site, it does not work. All I get is to repair it then that does not work. So, I have to uninstall/re-install numerous times and still no go. Verizon reps are hopeless regarding this issue.

I don't know if you've reported this to the developers, but it might be possible that the software you've installed on your machine to lack support for that particular operating system.
According to the information presented on the official website, the application supports the following operating systems:
Windows PC: XP Service Pack 3,Vista,7, 8 or 8.1.
Apple Mac:OS X 10.7,10.8,10.9,10.10 or 10.11.
If you have anything different than this, then you might expect errors to happen. Unfortunately, after I've searched on their website, there were no in-depth troubleshooter files available which means you need to run the software in compatibility eventually to avoid any other errors.
To install it in Windows 8, simply download the installation package from the official website and proceed with the installation by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator. Follow the instructions provided and the application should be installed normally.
On boot up, Windows box on notification taskbar indicates VzDetect has stopped working.

This indicates the software is corrupted or its files have been affected by another installation or program. First thing to do is to disable the startup applications, then reboot the PC. Go to Start > Run > msconfig and switch to Startup. Uncheck all the applications from the list. Reboot the PC and then try starting the software again. If you still have issues, download another installation package, uninstall the current version of software and install the new one downloaded from the official website.
